We were very honored to have math enthusiast, CMU professor, and USA IMO math team coach Po-Shen Loh speak at our Math Circle speaker event today. In his talk, he examined the construction of dice, their significance in game theory, and ended with an unexpected trick on how to become better at Monopoly. Professor Loh also shared many personal pieces of advice regarding advancement in competitive math and enhancement in critical thinking skills. The talk was very thought-provoking, humorous and motivating, so if you missed it, check out the video here: http://springlighteducation.com/5231-2/. Our Math Circle may have more exciting events like this in the near future, so stay tuned! Hey guys! Even though all our lecture sessions of the year are over, we still have talk(s) during the summer! Our first one will be from Nelson Niu, a current MIT student who has formerly competed in many math competitions, including attending the Math Olympiad Summer Program, a peak standard among high school students.
The title of his talk is "Splitting Cake with Sperner's Lemma" - I'm sure many of you are interested in cake! His blurb is here: docs.google.com/document/d/15RAIPc8r1m8zNTQ-8M9eA3kUtaVQhL9sNQrzRZtZG9k/edit The talk will be on 6/5, and will run from 7:30-9 PM. Hope to see all of you there! Now that we're done with all our presentations this year, here are all the presentations! If you have any questions, feel free to email us and ask!
